Many marketers launch their social media programs because they feel they need to understand both how they will make these work and how they will be managed. Most of them do this with no goal in mind and worse, no understanding of how social media marketing works.

Many believe that social is the answer to customer acquisition and are short sided in defining realistic results. Unfortunately this all results in lost time, lost customers, lost market share, and lost profitability.

Below are given Five Steps For Social Media Marketing Plan :

Step 1: Create Your Executive Overview Business Plan

Spell out your business in a one-pager to realize why you need social:

    Your Business Mission and History

    Your Business or Revenue Model

Descriptions of your Products & Services

    Details of Your Target Audience

Review of Your Current Marketing Efforts

Step 2: Define Your Specific Social Media Goals

It is impossible to reach and attain a goal without defining exact specifics. Too many business owners let social metrics define their goals, such as “More Twitter Followers”, “More Fans on Facebook”, “More YouTube Views.”

As marketers, we all know that it is really about engagement that counts. But, what engagement are we talking about? Positive engagement? Volume of commenting on a controversial piece of content?

You need to go a step beyond to define specific, actionable, and (most importantly) reasonable SMM goals.

Here are some specific SMM goals you might use after completing your business review:

Validate a new product or service using social as a research platform.

Develop buzz and interest around a new product.

Engage users in social to generate relevant and targeted traffic to your site.

Gain market share by leading customer/client service through social.

Generate registrations to branded events through social.

Step 3: Find Your SMM Voice

One of the keys to ensuring your success in social is to create and implement a voice that resonates with your specific target audience. For each audience type, break down and research age, income, location, and reasons for possibly buying your products/services.

Step 4: Choosing Your Social Tools Appropriately

Choosing your social tools appropriately is an essential piece of your online communications plan, so choose wisely.

Let’s do a short review of the leading social sites to assist you in your selection:

Facebook:More than 955 million users. Majority between 18-25; 60 percent female. Best opportunity for community building with customers.

Twitter:More than 555 million users. Majority between 26-34; 57 percent female. Best tool for interacting in real-time.

Google Plus+:More than 170 million users. Majority between 26-34; 63 percent male. Platform for driving visibility around a brand.

LinkedIn:More than 150 million users. Majority between 26-34, directly followed by 35-44. The number one B2B social networking tool.

Pinterest: More than 12 Million Users. Majority between 26-44; 68 percent female. A viral platform for sharing stories via pictures.

Step 5: Plan & Execute Content & Delivery

Now to the hard part – finding, creating, and delivering engaging social media content. Social media execution can be daunting, but with a proper plan it is doable and can drive real (marketing) results.

What you need to define:

Your frequency of content delivery & response to social engagement.

Your types and specific topics for content creation.

    Ways to increase audience engagement.

    Events that can drive social.

Your social success metrics (number of followers, number of fans, volume of traffic back to site, number of retweets, etc.).

Summary :

Social media marketing can be an excellent vehicle for developing online brand awareness, customer engagement, and audience growth. This requires a solid, measurable plan and a commitment to developing consistent and valuable content. In addition, it’s crucial for you to have a clear understanding of why social can be useful for reaching your business goals.

Social Networking: The Internet’s become a far more social place. By utilizing these social networking tools you can build a community of online lemmings who are spreading the good word of your business for you.

Blogging: Another big one; by having a blog with your own behind the scenes tips and tricks, you are breaking down walls and letting people peek at your business while still controlling the narrative.

Social Bookmarking: For social bookmarking you need to deal with only the best. Websites like Digg and Delicious can help launch you and your website into the stratosphere.

Link Baiting: In your blogging and on your website if you share others links (your sources) then they may share yours.

Photo Sharing: A picture can say 1000 words. One of the biggest of the top 10 off page SEO tips to build site rankings is to share your pics with the world! Consider Flickr as one of the most popular or Picasa because it’s owned by the big dog in search Google. Or check out the newest addition in the photo sharing world Pinterest!

Video: Who doesn’t love to be able to see the in’s and outs of their favorite business? Or finding personal instructions from the CEO, President or creator of a product? That’s how videos can make your page ranking rise. Of course YouTube is huge, and unmistakably the top dog. But if you’re looking for others Metacafe and DailyMotion are good as well.

Press Releases: The big business way to make your page ranking rise is through the spreading of information. Information is shared through press releases. 1888pressrelease, Open PR, and PR Leap are three websites you can investigate to get your press release story out there and of course link back to your web site, more importantly link back to a relevant page pertaining to that article. (think keywords)

Answers: People have questions; the Internet has answers. Specifically participate in the questions by providing the answers at Yahoo Answers or Cha-Cha.

Document Sharing: Another place to share information is on document sharing websites like GoogleDocs. Why even consider going anywhere else? I mean this IS Google were talking about right?

Articles: If you’re trying to create your own narrative you can also go the way of creating your own articles. Visit sites like Ezine, Go Article, Zerys, or even set up an account on Yahoo Voices and thread the needle the really deliberate way by going through these article creation websites.

After you have finished pouring your heart and soul into your latest blog post, you may think that you are finished with it and can leave it to propagate on its own. Unfortunately, the internet is much more complex these days and you cannot reasonably expect your latest blog addition to pop up on the screens of countless viewers without something hard work and a consistent routine. In below have showned what to do after writing a new blog post. Optimize Your Post Title : This is first step after writing a new post. Once you have written the post, it is a good idea to read it back and isolate the main topics and recurring words in the post. Using a tool such as Google Adwords keyword selection tool, you can then generate a list of the most popular search queries that revolve around those words. After you have this information, return to your post and consider optimizing the title to go hand-in-hand with those results – while maintaining your own creative element. By pinging to Google phrases that match popular terms, you are sure to get more exposure. Distribute via Social Media : This is second step after writing a new post. If you are not posting to social media each new update to your blog, then you are missing out on one of the newest and most rapidly-growing segments of internet traffic for blogs. By having accounts on Facebook, Twitter and others, you can quickly and easily let all of your friends and subscribers know about any new updates. In addition to using scheduling features on your blog to postdate publication, many social networking sites offer the same ability to you for status updates. Use URL Shorteners : This is third step after writing a new post. When posting on other blogs or social networking outlets, be sure to use a shortened URL instead of the long-form version. Not only will this be necessary on sites like Twitter if you want to include a brief description of the blog post, but it also is more aesthetically pleasing than a large line of text. Comment on Other Blogs : This is forth step after writing a new post. If you are looking for like minded traffic, then consider posting on other similar blogs whenever you make an update. If you find a particular blog post from another blogger interesting, be sure to let them know so while also sharing your thoughts on the subject. Those who read the blog post and the comments will be more likely to click on your link if the information seems suitable, so be sure to incorporate your “plug” seamlessly. Reach Out to Bloggers : This is last step after writing a new post. If you know other bloggers in the same line of work as you, then you should reach out and encourage sharing between you and them whenever the other publishes a new blog post. Not only will this create stronger bonds among webmasters (and thus, traffic), but it will also help in pinging to Google all of your updates. Every additional link to one of your blog posts can only help you garner more traffic both in direct referrals from other blogs, as well as the eventual PageRank increases you can expect to see as your site continues to grow and becomes more reputable.
